Eurozone ETFs growing in Q2 2023

(Finance) – In second quarter of 2023 the outstanding amount of shares/units issued by investment funds other than money market funds stood at 15.302 billion euros. This was stated by the European Central Bank (ECB), explaining that net issues during this period amounted to €11 billion, with gross issues amounting to €953 billion and gross redemptions amounting to €942 billion. The annual growth rate of the shares/units, calculated on a transaction basis, was 0.3% in the second quarter of 2023.

In terms of type of investment fund, in the second quarter of 2023 the net issuance of fund units/units bonds amounted to 38 billion euros. For funds equity net redemptions amounted to 22 billion euro, while net redemptions of funds mixed amounted to 15 billion euros and the net issues of the funds real estatehedge and other funds amounted to 10 billion euros.

The exchange traded funds (ETFs)which constitute a separate category within total investment funds, recorded €29 billion in net issuance in Q2 2023. The outstanding amount of shares/units issued by ETFs stood at €1.399 billion EUR.

In the context of the business of investment funds other than money market funds, the net purchases of debt securities amounted to €111 billion in the second quarter of 2023. Net sales of investment fund units/units amounted to €20 billion and net purchases of shares amounted to €4 billion.

The outstanding amount of shares/units issued by money market funds rose to 1.507 billion euros, up 18 billion euros from the previous quarter
