In Italy, the Etna volcano has erupted on Tuesday, says, among other things Euronews. The eruption has caused an ash cloud rising to a height of eight kilometers over the island of Sicily, which has disrupted air traffic in the area.

Catania airport on the island is temporarily closed due to the eruption.

– The temporary closure will lead to flight cancellations or rerouting to other airports, regional authorities said in a statement.

According to the airline Aeroitalia, Catania airport will be closed until 18:00 on Tuesday. The airport had to be closed earlier in July, due to the ash rising into the sky.

Etna is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and is the largest active volcano in Europe.
