Europeans 2024: Emmanuel Macron tackles the RN campaign

Europeans 2024 Emmanuel Macron tackles the RN campaign

In an interview with the regional press, the head of state denounced the RN’s strategy during the European campaign which “offers nothing”.

Emmanuel Macron attacks the National Rally. If the far-right party is still at the top of voting intentions for the European elections, the head of state decided to intervene in the campaign in an interview published by the regional dailies of the Ebra group. During the interview, he denounced the “democratic hypocrisy” of the party led by Jordan Bardella. The President of the Republic was very critical of the RN’s strategy. “They are serving people with demagoguery. Seven years ago, they wanted to leave Europe and the euro. Two years ago we didn’t really know anymore,” he asserted.

And added that the National Rally proposes “to close the borders (but) when they are in charge, they see that they need Europe to protect their borders”. Likewise in the European Parliament, the elected representatives of the flame party “say that they are with the farmers but do not vote for the CAP”, continues the President of the Republic. Before concluding: “A receptacle of anger does not make a program and the aggregation of frustrations does not make a project.”

“Their answer is not the right one”

Emmanuel Macron assured that he wanted to “convince that their answer is not the right one” and that it is preferable to vote for the list led by the majority candidate Valérie Hayer. But the head of the Renaissance list is not in good shape according to the latest polls. Since entering the campaign late, she has not stopped her fall in the polls against Jordan Bardella and has even tended to be overtaken by Raphaël Glucksmann, a candidate supported by the PS. Despite traditionally low participation in the European vote, the President of the Republic indicated that he wanted to “convince young people (…) of the importance of going to vote”. “Abstention is not inevitable, but we must explain why we vote,” he concluded.
