Several politicians around Europe, including Sweden, are now urging their followers to vote for Israel in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest.
– This is another sign that this year’s Eurovision is becoming increasingly political, says TV4 Nyheternas reporter Filip Stiller Borowicz, who is on site in Malmö.
This year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest has been marred by the infected discussion surrounding Israel’s participation. During Thursday, several demonstrations were held in Malmö, both for and against Israel’s participation. During the semi-finals, the Israeli artist Eden Golan was booed when she performed her number.
During the day, a number of politicians have expressed their support for the Israeli artist Eden Golan, ahead of tomorrow’s final.
– Israel can absolutely win the viewers’ twelve on Saturday. But the big question is what the jury groups do, says Filip Stiller Borowicz.
Israel can easily come second after Sweden
One of those who urges his followers to vote for Israel’s contribution is the Swedish moderate Member of Parliament, Lars Beckman. On X Beckman writes that:
“Now the silent decent majority has the opportunity to vote Israel into a high position tomorrow to show the loud screaming left where we stand on the Israel issue. Israel may come second after Sweden :)”
The Christian Democrats’ top candidate for the EU elections, Alice Teodorescu Måwe, also shows support for Israel’s contribution on X. Teodorescu Måwe has, among other things, shared a post with the title “This is how you vote for Israel”. Once on the website, it is explained how many times you can vote for the Israeli contribution and what it will cost.
In another post that the KD politician shares, the figures reported by Italian RAI are communicated – where Israel received the most votes by a large margin. You are also encouraged to share the post if you intend to vote for Israel on Saturday.
Would be cool if Israel won
Finland’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Wille Rydman, also expresses his support for the Israeli contribution, at X he writes:
“There may be many opinions on the situation in Gaza, but the reporting on it seems to forget where it all started. Hamas, the terrorist organization that controls Gaza, attacked Israel last fall and carried out perhaps the most brutal terrorist attack of our time, targeting entirely innocent civilians. Two thousand people lost their lives in the most inhuman way.
It would actually be pretty cool if Israel won the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Apparently everyone can influence it by voting. It would at least be an indication that Europe is not jumping in step with Hamas’s propaganda.”
That’s why I vote for Eden Golan
Another voicing her support for Israel’s contribution is the Belgian member of the European Parliament, Assita Kanko. She signs X that the situation that should be noticed is that a young girl needs protection to participate in Eurovision.
“For all the innocent people who were killed, kidnapped or raped at the Nova festival, I vote for Eden Golan. For a world where girls can sing and dance without being afraid,” she writes on X.
TV4 Nyheterna has asked the EBU for a comment.
