The centre-right EPP is continuing to be the largest group in the European Parliament, according to the European Parliament’s result forecast. According to it, the EPP is getting 191 seats in the new European Parliament.

The second largest group would be the social democratic S&D group with 135 seats. The liberal Renew group would remain the third largest group, although 20 seats would be lost due to its support.

If the number of seats remains like this, the three largest parties will be able to form a majority in the future European Parliament if they wish.

The extreme right wing is driving past the green group

According to the forecast, the far-right and far-right parties will rise past the green group.

The right-wing conservative ECR is getting 71 seats and the far-right ID, which includes 57 seats. The Green Party is left with 53 seats, while it had 71 seats in the previous parliament.

The left-wing group is getting 35 seats and staying about the same size compared to the retreating parliament.

This is only the first forecast, based on door-to-door surveys and national estimates. Exact European-wide results are not expected until after midnight, when the ballot boxes in Italy have also closed.
