“With football, the screen is down and the tap is open,” says Kris Bessele from café De Potdeksel. Every European Championship and World Cup, the Utrecht pub broadcasts the matches of the Dutch national team. The flags are now hanging, a 5 by 5 meter banner has been hung and the inside of the pub is decorated in orange. The pub is normally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. “But when the Dutch national team plays, we are also open on those days.” Bessele is looking forward to it. “Especially after the mediocre years with corona, it is nice that it is in the summer. The World Cup in Qatar was also disappointing. That was in the middle of winter, a shame.”
