European elections maneuvers for the new Commission begin

(Finance) – Confirmation from the European Commission is difficult but the European Parliament will move forward on the priorities of recent years, safety and competitiveness first and foremost. This is the opinion of the Moody’s analyst Rhosha There in commenting on the outcome of the European elections. “With narrower margins for defections from the centrist coalition, confirmation of the new one could be more difficult Commission European and some legislation reaching the finish line in the next five years. But Parliament is unlikely to stop progress in some priority key like the safety and the competitivenessincluding the capital market union,” the Moody’s analyst highlighted.

It is now outlined map of the new Parliament European. The largest political group will be confirmed as that of European People’s Party (PPE) which increases the number of its seats from 176 in the current legislature to 186 with a share of 25.83%. The second group will be that of the progressive alliance of Socialists and Democrats, which however lost 4 seats, going from 139 in the 2019-2024 Parliament to 135 (19.71%). In third place i Liberals Of Renew which however significantly lighten their ranks: 79 seats (there were 102), corresponding to 10.97%. These are the groups of the so-called “Ursula majority” which would reach 400 seats, well above the relative majority (361 out of 720).

Fourth place was won by the group Ecr (Conservatives and reformists) chaired by Giorgia Meloni who presents herself in the new European Parliament with 73 seats (equal to 10.14%). The fifth group in terms of seats is that of Identity and Democracy, in which Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement Nationale and the League are located, with 58 seats (8.06%). However, they are losing ground greens who become the sixth group (they were the fourth) with their 53 deputies (equal to 7.36%).

At this point there would be the group of non-members (where the M5S is located) with 45 MEPs followed finally by the group of Left which gathers 36 deputies (one less than the last legislature) with 5% of the vote.

The race has already started in Brussels training of the new Commission by the current president, Ursula von der Leyen, which is part of the EPP. However, he will have to find the numbers and has started contacts with Liberals and Socialists. “We all want a strong and capable Europe. In these turbulent times we need continuity. We want to continue on the path with all those who are pro-Europe, pro-Ukraine and pro-rule of law”, declared the main candidate of the EPP speaking at a press conference with the leader of the CDU, Friederich Merz, after the results of the European elections in Germany. “During my election campaign I worked hard to build a large and effective majority in favor of a strong Europe. For this reason we will now approach the large families policies who worked well with us even in the last mandate”, he added.
