Sweden’s European Championships have thus started – the premiere match was against the reigning champions the Netherlands at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England.
The match ended 1-1
After just over half an hour of play, Jonna Andersson was able to score Sweden’s first goal, after a fine play by Kosovar Asllani.
Early in the second half, the Netherlands equalized, through midfielder Jill Roord.
The Dutch in a collision
Before the tenth minute of the match, three of the Dutch players collided in a nasty collision – including goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal. Another involved was Stefanie van der Gragt, who had to leave the pitch before returning after just a short while.
Goalkeeper van Veenendaal, however, had to step down in about the twentieth minute, after grabbing his shoulder. She was replaced by Daphne van Domselaar.
