European car market Unrae the positive trend continues in January

(Finance) – Continue also to January the positive trend of car market in Europe (EU+UK+EFTA) which with 911,064 registrations records an increase of 10.7%, compared to 822,423 registrations in January 2022, and archives the sixth consecutive month of growth. But our market still remains in last place in the ranking of ECV cars (pure electric and plug-in hybrids): with a 7.3% share, Italy is largely overtaken by France with 22.3%, by the United United Kingdom with 20%, from Germany at 15.0% despite its sharp decline (it was at 21.6% in January 2022), and is still far behind Spain with 11.2%.

Some novelty in January it is found among the 5 Major Markets of the continent: la Germany, which has always led the ranking, reversed the trend and fell by 2.6% due to the drop in ECVs after the interruption of incentives for PHEVs starting from January. The other markets, on the other hand, recorded growth which, upwards, goes from +8.8% to France at +14.7% of United Kingdom+19.0% ofItalyup to +51.4% of the Spain. In terms of units registered, Italy overtook France in January and rose to third place.

“With the definitive approval by the European Parliament of the ban on the sale of new cars with endothermic engines from 2035, the jobs involved, a few tens of thousands, will not only be converted but others can also be added”, he comments the President of the UNRAE Michele Criss.

“It is a question – he adds – of a process that is already underway, which must be governed and which it is wrong to escape from. We must welcome these technologies and innovation, reassuring consumers about prices: the electric cars will not be just for the rich, because the gradual increase of volumes of production will help to reduce costs and related prices, the role of incentives is to shorten the time. In this process, companies, as buyers who are sensitive to sustainability and who will have to enjoy preferential taxation as in the rest of Europe, and infrastructures, especially on motorways, will play a fundamental role.

“For this – says Crisci – in the coming months and years the transition energy it must be accompanied by a Government, economic and political agenda, capable of effectively supporting development, also from a social and employment point of view”.
