In Brussels, one of Europe’s most popular cities, farmers protested in front of the European Parliament (EP) against increasing costs, environmental policies of the European Union (EU) and cheap agricultural product imports. Thousands of farmers from various European countries, especially Belgium and Italy, gathered in front of the EP building in Brussels. Farmers blocked traffic with their tractors around the area where the EU Leaders Summit was held.

AP BUILDING WAS BEsieged
Farmers left tires, dung and wood in front of the EP building and set fire to bales of hay and dung in Luxembourg Square.
To prevent farmers from throwing stones, eggs and torpedoes into the environment, Belgian police closed the entrances to the AP campus, which are open to the public, with barbed wire fences.
Protesters opened banners saying “No farmers, no food” and shouted slogans against agricultural policies. Farmers stated that they experienced problems due to agricultural product imports in the EU’s free trade agreements, complex market regulations, injustice in subsidy distribution, and mistakes in the transition to sustainable agriculture, and demanded that higher prices be paid for agricultural products in the face of increasing costs.
Farmers in many EU countries, especially Germany, France, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Italy and Hungary, are reacting to the recently implemented agricultural policies.
