US President Donald Trump accuses European countries of spinning in the United States.
“Yes, I think they have been going on,” Trump says at a press conference.
The comment was a response to a question of any Defense Minister Pete Hegseth should have said in the chat on the message app Signal as a journalist at the journal The Atlantic was accidentally invited.
In the chat – who dealt with the United States then imminent attacks on the Huthi movement in Yemen – someone who identified himself as vice president JD Vance wrote that he was hesitant about the attacks because he did not want to “save Europe again”. Hegseth then replied that he shares Vance “disgust” against Europeans going “Snåljuts”: “It is pathetic”.
The reasoning is based on the fact that Americans believe that European countries are more affected by the Huthi movement’s attacks on shipping than the United States does.
– Both Vance and Hegseth have been in Europe and delivered quite tough and provocative messages. This is an extra level that shows such an uninhibited contempt against Europe, says Björn Fägersten, senior researcher at the Foreign Policy Institute, to Dagens Nyheter about the plays.
