The France team has not yet officially qualified for the round of 16, but is very close.
The table for the round of 16 is starting to be known and the least we can say is that the first part is dense with Germany already, who finished in first place in miraculous fashion after their draw against the Switzerland on Sunday, Spain, already qualified and first even before its last match and Portugal, in the same situation as the Spaniards. The Blues will therefore have every interest in qualifying in first place and therefore landing in the second part of the table of these eighths.
Qualifying scenarios:
- if they don’t lose against Poland
- if Austria does not beat the Netherlands
- if they lose against Poland, but at the same time the Netherlands lose against Austria by a bigger margin
- if they lose to Poland, but finish among the best thirds with four points.
The Blues can also qualify this Monday evening. Because if Albania, opposed to Spain, does not manage to win, it will only total 1 or 2 points, depending on the result. The third in this group (Italy, Croatia or Albania) cannot then have more than three points. In the event of a victory for Italy against Croatia, the Transalpines would be 2nd with 6 points and the Croatians 3rd or 4th with 1 point. In the event of a draw between Italians and Croatians, 3rd would be Albania or Croatia, with 2 points. Finally, in the event of a victory for Croatia, it would take 2nd place from Italy with 4 points, leaving the Transalpines 3rd with 3 points.
In all these scenarios, France would then be assured of appearing at least among the four best third-placed groups with four points.
A disaster scenario nevertheless exists because if the Blues lose against Poland while the Netherlands lose against Austria by a smaller margin, they will finish third in the group and will have to wait to find out if they are a better third or not.
