(Finance) – The EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowskistated that the mid-term review of the EU budget expected in the coming months “will not be the proposal of a new budgetbut we cannot ignore the problems caused by the great discrepancy” between the multi-year expenditure ceilings decided by the EU for 2021-27 and theinflation.
Speaking to the Agriculture Committee of the European Parliament, Wojciechowski underlined that “inflation is affecting all programs of the EU budget and the Commission must verify the sustainability expenditure ceilings, given that the real level of inflation is much higher than expected and we are already using the budget margins”. Wojciechowski then added that he is convinced that “before the end of the mandate” the Commission will present a proposal new budget “with ambitious measures for the future of Pac“, including a “stronger budget for the safety food and the protection of farmers, rural areas and the environment”.
