EU White Paper Sarmi Asstel Strategic initiative for the future

(Finance) – Massimo Sarmi, President of Asstelwelcomes the publication of White Paper of the European Commission concerning the needs of European Digital Infrastructures.

“The measures proposed in the White Paper have strategic relevance for the future of telecommunications and digital connectivity in the European Union, as they promote the innovation and competitiveness of EU digital infrastructures on the global scene”, explains the President Asstel.

“Europe must achieve the goals outlined in the EU Digital Decade, enabling European businesses to compete globally and exploit the advantages offered by full digitalisation which is based on cutting-edge technological telecommunications infrastructures and services. For this to happen it is necessary, as stated in the White Paper, to resolve – adds Massimo Sarmi – a deficit in investments in network infrastructure of around 200 billion”.

“The Association – explains Massimo Sarmi – appreciates the attention paid to the proposed regulatory simplification necessary to support a diversified and constantly evolving digital ecosystem, capable of encouraging investments and the promotion of a single telecommunications market in the EU”.

“The initiatives that the European Commission intends to undertake are important – continues the President implement a new industrial policy approach. The review of spectrum measures would allow TLC operators to fully exploit the potential offered by the internal market. The desired update of regulatory policies, in addition to reflecting the current competitive dynamics of the markets, would allow us to take stock of the role and responsibilities of technology companies in the value chain and would allow us to reduce the current asymmetries with other digital service providers. The recognition of the enabling and central role of TLC Operators was also positively evaluated, given the importance attributed by the White Paper to the high-speed and low-latency transmission and processing of data for the purposes of the development of new generation services, IoT, cloud, artificial intelligence and security”.

“Asstel – concludes the President – will participate in the public consultation and provide its contribution to the European and National Institutions to guarantee the implementation of the new policies of the White Paper”.
