The EU Commission plans to propose a ban on the import of Russian aluminum as part of a new economic sanctions package.
Anonymous diplomatic sources interviewed by the news agency Reuters tell about it.
EU member states hope to reach an agreement on the package during February. It is the 16th sanctions package against Russia for the Union.
The ban planned by the Union now targets aluminum as a raw material.
The EU has already banned the import of Russian aluminum products, such as wires and pipes, into the territory of the Union.
