EU ready to negotiate with Ukraine and Moldova

The EU is ready to negotiate on Ukrainian membership in the Union.

On Thursday, the EU also agreed to give Georgia candidate status in the Union, according to European Council President Charles Michel.

“And the EU will start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina when the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria has been achieved,” he writes on X.

Zelensky: “History has been made”

– It is of course a huge success for Ukraine and a very big success for Volodymyr Zelenskyj personally, says TV4 Nyhetern’s foreign reporter Johan Fredriksson on location in Kiev.

– It is explicitly stated in the Ukrainian constitution that they want to join the EU.

The announcement comes despite earlier statements from Hungary that the country opposes membership negotiations with Ukraine.

The Ukrainian president states that “history has been made”.

“I thank everyone who worked to make this happen and everyone who helped. I congratulate all Ukrainians,” he writes on X.

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also writes about the announcement:

“Important decision in the European Council to start accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. A clear signal that your future is in the EU,” he states.
