In Sweden, Volvo passenger cars are perhaps the best-known brand with Chinese owners. But as many as 1,500 companies in Sweden have owners who come from China. Chinese companies buy ports and other infrastructure in Europe and around the world and they own large multinational companies.
– There are investments that are good, that are uncontroversial, but when it comes to investments in strategic infrastructure, we have to be careful, says parliamentarian Sara Skyttedal (KD) in a discussion in SVT Forum from Brussels.
– We must work more decisively, be more realistic and also speak with one voice. I think that is decisive, says EU parliamentarian Evin Incir (S).
Karin Karlsbro is an EU parliamentarian for the Liberals:
– We have to focus on what we want to do, instead of just being against China. I think it is very important that we trade more with more like-minded democracies in the world, so that we do not become dependent on countries like China, Russia and other aggressive dictatorships.
