(Finance) – In 2022 people in the EU evaluated their overall satisfaction with life averaged 7.1 points on a scale from 0 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (very satisfied). For 18 of the 27 EU countries overall satisfaction with life was rated above or equal to the EU average.
The score was highest in Austria (7.9), Finland, Poland and Romania (each at 7.7), Belgium and the Netherlands (both at 7.6) and lowest in Bulgaria (5.6), Germany (6.5) and Greece (6.7). In all countries except Bulgaria, average life satisfaction ratings were above 6, meaning that most people in the EU say they are satisfied rather than dissatisfied.
Life satisfaction can be influenced by many factors such as age, education level, family and financial situation, as well as an individual’s diversity of experiences, choices, priorities and values. This subjective indicator of the well-being of European citizens is collected as part of the EU Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC).
