The European Commission will investigate whether it is possible to help US Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (Rferl) following the US announcement that operations will be discontinued.
– For us on the other side of the iron curtain, it was the radio that we got a lot of information from what was really going on. It has been a headfy of democracy, says EU’s Foreign Executive, Esten Kaja is called after the EU countries’ Foreign Minister’s meeting in Brussels on Monday.
According to Called, however, the EU cannot go in and automatically take over the financing of the radio channel, which has its headquarters in Prague in the Czech Republic.
– We have many organizations that come with the same wishes (for money). But there was real pressure from the foreign ministers to find a way out so we were commissioned to see what we can do, says called.
