European Union election observers found ambiguities in the vote counting in Mozambique’s elections. According to observers, the results were changed at polling stations and constituencies without justification.

Parliamentary and presidential elections were held in Mozambique on October 9. The election results have not yet been announced.

Riot police broke up demonstrations in the capital Maputo on Monday, where the elections were accused of being fraudulent.

Two opposition presidential candidates Venancio Mondlane a colleague was shot over the weekend. Mondlane blames at least the second murder on the government. The United States has condemned the actions and has called on Mozambique to investigate the incidents.
