The production of munitions within the EU is to increase drastically in response to Ukraine’s pleas for help in the Russian offensive, according to the EU’s Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton.
– We are at a decisive moment for our collective security in Europe. In the war of aggression that Russia is waging in Ukraine, Europe must and will continue to support Ukraine with all its means, he says.
By the end of the year, at least 1.3 million grenades must be produced. Next year, production will be scaled up even more, according to Breton.
– We must ensure that most of this is prioritized for Ukraine. Because that is where there is an urgent need.
Russia has realigned large parts of its economy to be able to supply ammunition to the Russian strike forces and the belligerent country has also received significant amounts from North Korea.
