EU imposes additional sanctions on Hamas

The sanctions are introduced, among other things, due to the gross sexual violence against girls and women during the attack.

The decision to extend the sanctions is part of a deal within the EU that will also lead to sanctions against extremist Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

Around 1,150 people are estimated to have been killed in the terrorist attack on 7 October, most of them civilians, and more than 200 people were taken hostage.

According to Hamas-controlled authorities, more than 33,000 people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza since the outbreak of war.
