EU green light to joint venture between DTelekom Orange Telefonica

(Finance) – The European Commission has unconditionally approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the creation of a joint venture Between Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telephone And Vodafone Group. The EU Antitrust has concluded that the transaction does not raise competition concerns in the European Economic Area (EEA). The advertising joint venture intends to challenge the US tech giants.

The joint venture will offer a platform for support digital marketing and advertising activities of brands and publishers in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. With your consent, the joint venture will generate a unique digital code derived from your mobile or landline subscription. This code will allow brands and publishers to recognize users on their websites or applicationsgroup them into different categories and tailor their content to specific user groups.

Based on its market investigation, the Commission found that “the operation, as notified, it would not significantly reduce competition in the French, German, Italian and Spanish markets” for: the supply of digital identification services for targeted advertising and/or site optimisation; the retail supply of mobile telecommunications services; the retail supply of fixed Internet access services; the retail supply of audiovisual services ( AV); the supply of online advertising space.
