The EU’s climate and environment ministers met on Tuesday in Luxembourg with the aim of agreeing on a series of major proposals that are part of the European Commission’s major climate package for 2030.
Until then, the EU countries will have jointly reduced their emissions by 55 percent compared to 1990. This will be done with the help of more than a dozen proposals that the Commission presented in its “Fit for 55” package last summer.
These are agreements on five points, including stricter rules for trading in emission rights and climate targets in the agricultural, transport and construction industries.
It has also been agreed on requirements for zero emissions from new passenger cars by 2035 – that is, they can no longer be run on petrol or diesel.
