EU member states have reached a historic agreement on the future of asylum and migration. It is clear after Thursday’s ministerial meeting in Luxembourg.
Among other things, it includes new rules for faster processing at the borders, an increased focus on sending back people who do not have grounds for asylum, and a mandatory “solidarity”, where the countries promise to help each other in different ways in crisis situations.
– Now they must come to an agreement with the EU Parliament, which has a somewhat softer attitude, before the law can become a reality, probably in 2024, says SVT’s European correspondent David Boati.
