The EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council has agreed on the 2025 Baltic Sea fishing quotas.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayahin (qd.) herring quotas will increase significantly and targeted commercial salmon fishing can be continued in all Finnish sea areas, including the area between the Archipelago Sea and Merenkurku.

The herring fishing quota in the main Baltic Sea basin and the Gulf of Finland was increased by 108 percent. The total salmon quota for the main basin and the Gulf of Bothnia was reduced by 36 percent to 34,787 salmon, of which Finland’s quota is 8,989 salmon.

Essayah is pleased with the solution based on scientific knowledge because, according to him, it takes into account the vitality of the fish stocks.

The halibut quota was cut by almost a third, and its fishing was restricted in parts of the Baltic Sea.
