The regime’s decision to carry out the exercises is condemned by EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell.
“There is no justification for using a visit as a pretext for aggressive military activity in the Taiwan Strait. It is normal and routine for lawmakers from our countries to make international trips,” Borrell wrote on Twitter.
The exercises continue until Sunday and, according to state-controlled media, will include “live ammunition”. Some of the activities will take place on international waterways used for trade, writes The Wall Street Journal.
