EU: Common cards for the disabled

At least that is what the European Commission wants in a new proposal.

— All too often, disabled people are faced with difficulties when traveling abroad. These cards will make their lives easier, explains Values and Transparency Commissioner Vera Jourová at a press conference in Brussels.

According to the commission, the new disability card should primarily be seen as a complement to national cards and permits. It is also still up to each member state to decide who is entitled to which status.

In another proposal on Wednesday, the EU Commission calls for increased electronic exchange of information and documents on the social insurance side.
