(Finance) – As part of the Macro-Financial Assistance + package for Ukraine, there European Commission dispensed today others 1.5 billion euros. With this instrument, the EU is trying to help Ukraine cover its immediate financing needs, with stable, predictable and consistent financial support in 2023. With today’s payment, the EU The amount of aid paid to Ukraine this year under Macro-Financial Assistance + reaches 12 billion euros.
Specifically, this support will help Ukraine continue to pay wages and pensions and keep essential public services running, such as hospitals, schools and housing for displaced people. It will also allow Ukraine to secure the macroeconomic stability and restore critical infrastructure destroyed by Russia in its war of aggression, such as energy infrastructure, water systems, transportation networks, roads and bridges.
“We are mobilizing every effort to help Ukraine. Today we poured another €1.5 billion in assistance to the country as it grapples with Russia’s brutal war of aggression and works to restore its infrastructure. And our support will go far beyond 2023. We will continue to stand by Ukraine, proposing support of up to 50 billion euros for the period 2024-2027”, commented the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Overall, since the beginning of the war, support for Ukraine and Ukrainians amounts to 76 billion euros. This includes financial, humanitarian, emergency and military support to Ukraine from the EU, member states and European financial institutions, as well as resources made available to help member states meet the needs of Ukrainians fleeing war.
On 20 June, the Commission proposed to set up a dedicated instrument providing coherent, predictable and flexible support to Ukraine for the period 2024-2027, for a total amount of up to 50 billion euros.
