European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is still ill, but is expected to return to work “towards the end of the week”, according to her main spokesperson Paula Pinho.
Sharp criticism has been made that the commission did not confirm until Friday that 66-year-old von der Leyen had been hospitalized for a while for the pneumonia she had suffered.
However, Pinho believes that the “most important information” was given about von der Leyen’s health, including that she had been seriously ill.
– But her ability to act has never been questioned. She has not been cared for on a ventilator or received intensive care, says Pinho in Brussels.
