EU agrees on lower oil price ceiling

Last minute The world stood up after Putins decision in

In the end, the EU agreed on the proposed price ceiling for Russian oil of $60 per barrel, according to Bloomberg which refers to a Polish diplomat.

In the negotiations, Poland wanted an even lower ceiling, something that Ukraine also advocated for.

The EU and the G7 countries, the world’s seven richest countries, have proposed a price cap on exported Russian oil, to limit Russia’s economic income. All 27 EU countries had to agree, and 26 of them had effectively given the thumbs up while Poland hesitated.

– It will probably be hammered through quite soon, says TV4 Nyhetern’s foreign reporter Jona Källgren.

By Monday at the latest, the price ceiling is supposed to come into effect, in parallel with the EU’s general import ban on Russian oil.

To ensure that other countries outside the EU and the G7 countries do not ignore the price ceiling, rules have been put in place that state that no insurance companies may insure oil cargoes that cost more than 60 dollars a barrel.
