With his luminous and moving paintings, populated by charmers, dancers, merchants, talkers, lovers, muezzins in the Algerian oases, the French painter Étienne Dinet (1861-1929) managed to seduce and fascinate both colonial France and the ‘Independent Algeria. Today recognized as a master of Algerian painting, the Institute of the Arab World (IMA) in Paris is dedicating the first exhibition to him in a French institution in a century: “Étienne Dinet, Algerian Passions”.
