Marathon runner Tamirat Tola won the final of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene (Oregon) on Sunday July 17. The Ethiopian completed his race in 2 hours 5 minutes and 37 seconds, a new World Championship record, ahead of his compatriot Mosinet Geremew and Belgian Bashir Abdi. Vice-world champion in 2017 in the marathon and bronze medalist at the 2016 Olympic Games in the 10,000m, Tamirat Tola won his first major title, aged 30, while Mosinet Geremew won a second silver medal after that of the 2019 Worlds On the list of winners, Tamirat Tola succeeds another Ethiopian, Lelisa Desisa.
