Prime Minister of Estonia Kristen Michal says that it is still too early to comment in more detail on new information about the rupture of the gas pipe.

At the beginning of the week, it was reported that China had admitted to the local media that its cargo ship had damaged the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia last October.

Michal and the Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo (collective) are organizing a joint press conference today at the prime minister’s official residence in Kesäranta.

Orpo also emphasized that the investigations into the gas pipeline case are still ongoing.

Both prime ministers said that the cooperation on the case has worked very well.

Both prime ministers emphasized support for Ukraine in the war and the EU’s need to develop its defense spending.

The press conference also talked about the Russian threat.

– It is clear that Russia is a permanent threat. Putin only respects strength, says Orpo.

Earlier it was reported that the prime ministers have discussed, among other things, the cooperation between Finland and Estonia, current security issues and EU affairs.

Michal has met with Finland’s highest management today. Earlier, he met the president in Helsinki by Alexander Stubb.

Michal has been in Finland for a two-day visit. The visit is his first visit abroad as Prime Minister.
