Owner Olive Williams encourages customers to be ‘restored with oil of olives.’ The beauty spa and boutique offers manicures, pedicures, waxing, tinting, braiding and cornrows, choice boutique shopping, and an opportunity for a relaxing chat.
“It’s for everyone,” said Williams, who would also like to add a hairstylist.
Essence of Olives, which opened June 7, held its grand opening at 29 Brock Street West on August 1st, attended by Oxford MP Arpan Khanna and Tillsonburg Mayor Deb Gilvesy. It is open Tuesdays-Saturdays – 10-6 Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11-8 Thursdays and Fridays, and 11-3 Saturdays.
“I’m excited,” said Williams, who worked in finance for 25 years. “It’s something new, something different. I was looking to get out of slow down. Less stress, less pressure. It’s a huge change for me. Mental health is very important.

“I’m meeting people, I’m conversing, and it’s something that I enjoy,” Williams said, noting she has studied at a school of aesthetics.
It’s all about providing a service to the community, especially those who are going through a tough time.
“I get an opportunity to talk to them. I can counsel them, skills I learned at George Brown College. I’m a minister at heart, I try to give them hope. A lot of people are facing difficulty in this world, so it gives me great joy to be here.
“We’re offering the essence of olives, the ‘essence of life,’ to the community and we want them to know that we’re here. And even if they don’t have money to spend, if they want to come in and talk, if they’ve been burdened or they need direction, they can always come in. We’re here as a support system. I want to be able to help this community – they are precious people. I want to encourage them, I want them to know they are valuable. I’ve always wanted to offer service and help others.
“When this opportunity came up, I saw it and grabbed it.”
Business neighbors on Brock Street West have been very supportive, she said, bringing ‘welcome to the community’ flowers and meals for the opening. The BIA also showed its support.
“It’s been really encouraging to see that people are appreciating what we are doing here.”
