ESMA looking for new members for Stakeholder Group

(Finance) – The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) is looking for candidates – who represent the interests of financial market stakeholders – who are interested in entering the Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group (SMSG). This is an important body for ESMA, facilitating consultation with interested parties by providing technical advice on ESMA’s policies and activities, as well as bringing information on market developments to the Authority’s attention.

“It is important that the views of stakeholders in the SMSG are well balanced,” he commented Verena Ross, President of ESMA – As we prepare to renew the group, I therefore particularly call on stakeholders who can give a strong voice to consumers, users of financial services, financial sector employees and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to come forward.”

Interested candidates are invited to submit their applications by March 18, 2024. The final decision on the composition of the SMSG is expected to be taken by ESMA’s Board of Supervisors in May 2024. The successful candidates will take up their duties as of 1 July 2024 for a four-year term.

The other European supervisory authorities also EBA and EIOPAwill launch their own calls for candidates to their stakeholder groups on their websites in the first quarter of 2024.
