He is suspected of smuggling, serious money laundering, document forgery and fraud, and of being part of a criminal organization that conducts illegal art trade.

The court in French Bourg-en-Bresse is also part of the Spanish authorities’ investigation, since Olof K Gustafsson got caught in customs in France in 2020, when he was traveling in a car with three paintings by Picasso.

The Escobar CEO may be extradited to the United States

During the crackdown, the US IRS was also involved, as the Escobar CEO is accused of defrauding hundreds of people on mobile phones.

Now the Escobar CEO has been in custody for over two weeks, and according to SvD, the US wants Olof K Gustafsson extradited.

– According to us, it is completely unreasonable that he should be extradited to the United States. He is a Swedish citizen and lives in Spain. Furthermore, this is a civil law issue, not a criminal one, says Olof K Gustafsson’s lawyer Federico Moglia to SvD.
