The guard, who disappeared with the prisoner he abducted from the prison in the USA, was caught injured after a 10-day follow-up, but died in the hospital.
Casey White, a 38-year-old murder suspect, and 56-year-old Vicky White were thought to be romantically involved.
The couple, whose surnames are similar, disappeared from the Lauderdale prison in Alabama on April 29.
The guard woman got Casey White out of prison under the pretense of a fake medical evaluation.
The runaway couple was caught by police in the state of Indiana, in northern Alabama.
Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Singleton said the couple crashed their vehicle while fleeing from police.
The local media of the area where the couple was caught reported that the guard woman shot herself in the car after the accident, citing police sources.
Rick Singleton did not respond to questions about the suicide claim and said:
“I hope she lives. We don’t want anything bad to happen to Vicky in terms of health. But she has some answers she needs to give us and I hope we get the opportunity to get those answers.”
Sheriff Singleton said the murder suspect who surrendered “will never see the light of day again”.
‘I would entrust my life to him’
The day of the escape was guard Vicky White’s last day at work.
Selling his house, White told his colleagues that he wanted to spend time by the beach.
City police and prosecution officials say Vicky White has an immaculate record as a prison guard.
“I would trust him with my life,” said Lauderdale District Attorney Chris Connolly of White.
Connolly said, “If we needed anything from prison, he would be the person we were looking for. He was solid. That’s why we were shocked.”
The murder suspect Vicky White smuggled out of prison is currently serving a 75-year sentence.
The 38-year-old convict, whose murder case is still ongoing, was convicted of robbery, theft of a vehicle and running away from the police.
It is noted that Casey White could be executed if convicted of murder.
