The second season of House of the Dragon puts its audience to the test again – and seems even outshine Game of Thrones to want to do anything when it comes to disgusting scenes. The season opener already had to deal with a beheaded toddler, but that was just the beginning. The 5th episode, titled The Prince Regent brings about completely new shock moments.

Right at the beginning of the episode we see the effects of the dragon fight from the fourth episode: the rotting head of the dragon Meleys is carted through the streets of King’s Landing, to the shock of the population. But that is not the disgusting scene yet. Shortly afterwards, the medically skilled maesters cart the badly burned King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) home.

Not a pretty sight for Alicent
The king is alive, but was badly burned by the dragon fire of Vhagar. So badly that he is basically was fried in his own armor. His skin looks accordingly crispy and cooked when we take him out of his battle gear in close-ups. The only scene that was this disgusting was the GoT scene where Sam removed the festering grey scales from Ser Jorah Mormont.

Mamma mia! You thought the incest in Game of Thrones so far was bad?
Incest of a certain degree is an accepted matter in some corners of Westeros. At least among the Targaryens, where Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) has married her uncle Daemon (Matt Smith). But the dragon family would also turn up their noses at the mother/son combination. But that’s exactly what we get to see in season 2 episode 5.
Fortunately, it is only a dream that Daemon had in the enchanted Harrenhal bed about his long-dead mother Alyssa Targaryen (Emeline Lambert). The scene goes on for quite a while and really revels in the forbidden bond between mother and son. Not even Game of Thrones went that far.

In the book Fire and Blood by George RR Martin, Alyssa is named as a former dragon rider of Meleys. She is said to have been very promiscuous and died after the complicated birth of her third son Aegon, who, unlike his brothers Viserys and Daemon, only lived to be one year old.
