Erling Haaland confused by opposition captain’s request mid-Champions League match – ‘You can’t do this’

Manchester City took a convincing 3-0 routine victory over the Swiss club Young Boys yesterday in the football Champions League. After the match, the confusing situation at the beginning of the half-time interval spoke more than the result.

Captain of the Young Boys Mohamed Ali Camara asked City’s star striker Erling Haaland’s jersey for himself, which is usually done only after the entire match is over. Camara got what he wanted. At the same time, however, Haaland wondered about the opponent’s request.

– You can’t do this, TV cameras reported Haaland saying as the players marched towards the players’ tunnel.

TNT Sports expert Ally McCoist found Camara’s actions “embarrassing”.

Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky also wondered about his player’s behavior after the match. He did not see the situation, but heard about it from the media.

– I didn’t see it, that was new to me. I’m a little surprised by that, Wicky admitted.

– I don’t think it has anything to do with the match or his playing, but I will talk to him (Camara). Maybe Erling asked him to.

Haaland scored two goals in the match and increased his number of goals in this season’s Champions League to four. In total, Haaland has 39 goals in 34 matches in the Champions League.

At the same time, City secured its place in the first group of the Euro competition.

German fans rioted in Naples

The Champions League continues on Wednesday in Naples, among other places, where the German fans caused mayhem yesterday. Police have arrested eleven German soccer fans in the city where the Berlin club Union is playing against Napoli today.

About 300 German “ultrafans”, with red bandanas covering their faces, rioted in the center of Naples last night, the police said. Among other things, they damaged parked cars and rioted in a local store, and attacked the police armed with stones and metal pipes.

Naples has experienced the German avalanche brought by the Champions League before. Last season, Eintracht Frankfurt’s winger fans rioted in the city, and the home team’s fans responded. Six policemen were injured in those skirmishes.

Tuesday’s Champions League match in Milan between AC Milan and PSG was also overshadowed by violence. A PSG supporter was stabbed and another away fan was banned from Milan’s San Siro stadium for two years after trying to take a carpet knife into the stands.
