Sports influencer Erkki Alaja has died at the age of 71. Aja’s spouse Tuuli Merikoski told about it on Twitter.
– Bright summer turned into pitch black in an instant. My beloved husband Erkki Alaja died suddenly yesterday. In the directionless sadness, there is gratitude for the wonderful time together. The influence of Erki’s big heart is now beating in the rest of us, Merikoski wrote.
Alaja worked e.g. As CEO of HJK and chairman of AC alliance and sports manager. He has written several books on sports marketing and sponsorship and for example Aulis Rytkönen once in a lifetime.

Alaja’s identical twin brother Pertti Alaja (1952–2017) served as chairman of the Finnish Football Association.
Alaja himself played football as a central defender, mostly in the 1st and 2nd divisions. At the main league level, he accumulated 41 matches and scored one goal.
The versatile sportsman also played handball at the championship level.
