Eritrean Biniam Girmay wins the 2024 African Cyclist Trophy, succeeding his compatriot Henok Mulubrhan. He is ahead of the South African Jan Hatherly, the first African rider to be world mountain bike champion and bronze medalist at the Paris Olympic Games, and the Algerian Yacine Hamza who dominated the charts in the main races on the continent. Biniam Girmay, 24, owes his distinction to his great performances on the Tour de France by winning three stages as well as the prestigious green jersey in the points classification. What no African runner had yet managed to achieve. He won the Trophy for the best African cyclist of the year for the fourth time after 2020, 2021 and 2022.
