Erika Pykäläinen finished 34th in the giant slalom world cup in Kronplatz.
Erika Pykäläinen narrowly missed out on a place in the second round of the Giant Slalom World Cup in Italy. A Finnish calculator would have needed a faster calculation of 0.35 seconds to be able to calculate a second time. Pykäläinen, who started the race with number 49, was not able to make a relaxed enough descent.
– Above all, bittersweet atmospheres. 34th place is close to a second round spot, but not quite there. The calculation seems to be found, and that’s a good thing considering the upcoming World Championships. The third place in the European Cup I achieved earlier gave me faith in this job, Pykäläinen commented in Ski Sport Finland’s press release.
– It was quite a tight race and at the end there were quite big mistakes. The whole way you were a little bit under the stick, and I couldn’t really drop properly at any point, I had to keep trying to catch the turn. In the end, too much time passed.
Pykäläinen plans to count on the European Cup next and thereby gain momentum for the World Championships.
New Zealand won the competition Alice Robinson. The win was Robinson’s first in almost four years. Switzerland came second Lara Gut-Behrami (+0.56) and third by the United States Paula Moltzan (+0.94). After the first round, leading Italy Federica Brignone fell out.
