Erik Karlsson’s new monster success last night that the entire NHL is talking about – showed why he is the world’s best defenseman

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The world’s best Karlsson continues to dominate.
Last night he accounted for four(!) points, and completed a magical turnaround all by himself.
The Swedish star thus moves up in the backs’ scoring.

It shouldn’t really be possible to produce so many points, and be so superior, in a team so far removed from the playoff spots. But Erik Karlsson is back in earnest, and he continues to show it.

The success continues

The Swede was the world’s best back for large parts of the 10th century, but had a hard time since the move to the San Jose Sharks a couple of years ago. The Sharks have lost a lot of quality and don’t have a lot of shooting games to do, but Karlsson doesn’t seem to care much about that. He tops the NHL’s scoring list for defensemen, is the favorite to win the Norris Trophy, as the best defenseman of the year, and last night gave another fabulous performance.

The match against the Dallas Stars last night started badly for the Sharks and at the halfway mark the Sharks were down 0-3. After a reduction to 1-3 in the middle of the middle period, it was time for Erik Karlsson to step into the proceedings, and as he did. The Swede was noted for assists both to 2-3, and later 3-3. And that was just the beginning.

Decided with a dream goal

With ten minutes left in the game, Karlsson got the puck high up in the offensive zone, to the right of the opponent’s goal. Karlsson received the puck, and pulled away a real rascal smoker, which the goalkeeper had no chance to save. The dream goal would prove to be the game-winner, as the Sharks eventually won the game 5-3. And yes, Karlsson also had an assist on the last goal.

His one goal and three assists from the night means that he now leads the backs’ scoring by a whopping 13(!) point margin. He has played 46 games, scoring 15 goals and 47 assists. No player in the league has scored more passing points, and no one has scored more than his 40 in five-on-five games.

Erik Karlsson’s total dominance has of course not gone unnoticed in North America. The Swede is rumored for a new club, some who can challenge for the title, and that has clearly not reduced the interest of the clubs.

Erik Karlsson this season:

•46 games
•Playing 25:23/game (5th)
•15 goals
•47 assists (1st)
•40 5v5 points (1pc)
•Has points on 44% of Sharks goals
•Sharks up 61-52 with him on ice at 5v5
•Sharks down 70-41 without him on ice at 5v5
