Erik Karlsson continues to dominate.
Three new points came against the Washington Capitals, and the Swede is well up in the backs’ points standings.
In addition, he reached Connor McDavid himself in terms of plays.
Since the move to the San Jose Sharks, Erik Karlsson has been calculated and at times mocked. He became one of the league’s highest-paid players when he signed the monster contract with the Sharks, but he definitely hasn’t played like it…
New smash hit
But this season has been different. Karlsson has talked about how much it meant to him to have an entire preseason without thinking about injuries and being sore anywhere, and it certainly seems to have paid off on the ice, as Erik Karlsson is having one of the best seasons from a back on very, very long.
Erik Karlsson’s personal NHL scoring record – and remember that he was one of the world’s absolute best defensemen for many years – is 82 points. Even now, with only 54 of 82 games played of the season, he stands at an abysmal 73 points. Last night, against the Washington Capitals, three new points came, and he was thus a big hero for the Sharks who won the game 4-1.

Same with Connor McDavid
Erik Karlsson accounted for a goal and two assists in the match, and the three points mean that he leads the defenders in scoring with a whopping 17(!) points. Erik Karlsson is also in fifth place in the entire NHL’s scoring, of course far from completely superior to Connor McDavid, who in 54 games was noted for 97 points.
But the fact is that Erik Karlsson, after the night’s incredible success, now has as many assists as Connor McDavid. The duo, with 55 appearances this season, is tied for second on the list, trailing only Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov.
