Erik Karlsson is currently highly topical in the hockey World Cup.
Now the Tre Kronor star reveals his big gesture of love to wife Melinda.
– That’s as romantic as I can be, he tells Expressen with a laugh.
Tre Kronor has convinced the most of all the teams in the hockey World Cup so far. Led by the team captain Erik Karlsson Sweden has won all seven matches in the group stage and is one of the gold favorites in the WC finals.
Karlsson’s family
For Karlsson, it is the first time since 2016 that he plays for Tre Kronor again. A lot has happened in the 33-year-old’s life since he last pulled on the blue-and-yellow national team jersey.

“The world’s best Karlsson” has met the love of his life Melinda Currey, got married and became the father of two children and changed Ottawa to San Jose and now it is Pittsburgh that applies. Now the Tre Kronor starback reveals how he proposed to Melinda in the most unexpected way, with the help of a pizza box(!).
– It’s true! Our first date was actually at a pizzeria and we like pizza a lot. When I was going to propose, I drove an express delivery on the street to surprise her, says Karlsson to Expressen.
Nice gesture of love
It was a great success because Melinda was really surprised by the big gesture of love.
– Yes, because she has always said that she would know when I would propose to her. She’s good at figuring things out, so I had to pull out my best cards and I still managed to surprise her. She can admit it today, that I succeeded quite well. I’m glad it worked out, he says in the interview.

Erik Karlsson turned to a local pizza baker in Ottawa and succeeded with his surprise in a square in the Canadian city.
– We had to cut a hole in the middle, so the ring was there. The ring was secured, so no cheese could lay on it. Then we know a guy who owns a pizzeria where we ate a lot and he sent a person from the restaurant that Melinda didn’t recognize. He came over and said we had ordered pizza, she just replied “no, no, we haven’t ordered anything, we’re in the middle of a square”. Then she opened the box and then I ran the whole thing after that, he tells the evening newspaper.
– That’s as romantic as I can be, I think, he says with a laugh.
