Erik Karlsson has led Tre Kronor to a dream start at the hockey World Cup.
But at the same time, he has been surrounded by rumors from North America.
– That’s how it works in Canada, they like to invent things, admits Karlsson.
Tre Kronor is one of the gold candidates in this year’s hockey WC. Much thanks to the NHL stars Victor Hedman, Rasmus Dahlin and Erik Karlsson who agreed to play for the national team and went along to the tournament in the Czech Republic.

Karlsson has been given the honor of acting as team captain for the Swedish national team and so far it has been a dream start with four straight victories in the group stage. Extra nice for the 33-year-old who is coming off a tough season in North America.

A year ago, the Swedish NHL star switched from the San Jose Sharks to the star-studded Pittsburgh Penguins with the big goal of chasing the Stanley Cup trophy. But it didn’t turn out that way at all as the Penguins missed the playoffs altogether.
Rumors in the NHL
For Karlsson, it was 44 points in 64 games, but recently he was drawn into unexpected rumors from North America. Where the reigning Norris Trophy winner was linked with speculation about a return to his former team the Ottawa Senators.

But that is not true at all, according to Erik Karlsson.
– That’s how it works in Canada. I played there for a long time so I know a little about how the game works. They (the media) have a lot of things to talk about every day because they have a lot of airtime but very few things to actually discuss, says the Three Kronor star in a statement.
– They like to make up scenarios and that’s just the way it is. It’s not something I ever look at or worry about, he says.

“The best Karlsson in the world”, as he is often called, played nine NHL seasons and 627 games for the Ottawa Senators before leaving in 2018. In total, there have been an incredible 805 points in 984 games in the NHL and with that he is the second best Swedish defender through the times, after the icon Nicklas Lidström.
