Telecom provider Ericsson appoints Chris Houghton as chief operating officer, COO, and Åsa Tamsons as head of the Enterprise Wireless Solutions business area. The appointments apply from 1 November and both will report to Ericsson’s CEO Börje Ekholm.
It appears from a press release. Chris Houghton was previously head of market area Northeast Asia and has worked at Ericsson for 35 years. “The COO’s mission will be to strengthen and monitor operational execution across the group and to improve positioning and coordination between business areas.
This will enable me to fully focus on important strategic priorities in the business. I am pleased that Chris, with his extensive international experience, has accepted this new role at Ericsson,” says Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm in a comment.
Åsa Tamsons has been head of Technologies & New Businesses. She will focus on growth within Enterprise Wireless Solutions but also on increasing the pace of work towards reaching breakeven. George Mulhern, current head of the Enterprise Wireless Solutions business area, will become an advisor to the business starting on November 1.
He will retire in 2024. Nunzio Mirtillo, head of market area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India, will retire in 2024. Ericsson is starting a process to find replacements for Nunzio and Houghton’s previous role.
