Eric Chelle is Mali’s new coach. The information was made official on Saturday May 7 by the Malian Football Federation. The former defender replaces Mohammed Magassouba, whose contract was not renewed after the Eagles were eliminated in the World Cup play-offs against Tunisia. Eric Chelle, who has spent his entire professional career in France, notably in Valenciennes (2003-2008) and Lens (2008-2011), has been selected six times with Mali. He has so far trained in particular in Martigues. Mali are due to start the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on June 4 against Congo. The Eagles of Mali will face South Sudan four days later.
