Éric Cantona, a former professional footballer, is well known for his career on the pitch, but also for his talent as an actor. In his new project, a TV movie entitled “The Colossus with feet of clay”, he embodies the character of Sébastien, a former rugby player who was raped when young. This fiction, inspired by a true story, shows how meeting a young boy damaged like him, forces Sébastien to choose justice, but at what cost?
In an interview with the magazine TV Star, Eric Cantona explained how he was involved in this project. He revealed that he had been sent the autobiography of Sébastien Broueilh, the character he plays in the TV movie, and that he had immediately been seduced by the story. For him, embodying a wounded character like Sébastien was a rare and exciting opportunity. He also underlined the importance of the strong message that the telefilm conveys.
The actor then tackled the sensitive issue of sexual abuse and how to talk about it with his children. He explained that he talked about it with them, warning them that their bodies belonged to them and that no one had the right to touch them without their consent. Although he fears he will miss signals his children may be sending him, he knows that the first reaction in case of aggression would be to protect his children by killing the aggressor.
